Abstract

The presence of crack in the structure can change its physical nature and dynamic response towards the vibration. The depth and location of the crack are important parameters for the analysis. Cracks in vibrating component may cause for the sudden failure. In the present study, vibration analysis is done on a cantilever beam with two open transverse cracks and without any crack. The beam is considered to be an Euler-Bernoulli beam. The mode shapes and the natural frequencies are found with the help of Ansys. It showed that crack decreases the natural frequency of vibration. The mode shapes also changes considerably due to the presence of crack.
