Abstract

Onion and garlic crop require about 350-500mm of water during its growing season hence sufficient soil moisture is an important factor in its production. Drip irrigation technology contributed much in increasing area under onion and its production. With continuous effort from ICAR-DOGR, this technology has been adopted by about 60% of onion growers in Maharashtra. With drip irrigation technology, the farmers could get additional benefit of Rs.50000–55000 per hectare as compared to flood irrigation system.
