Abstract

The ability to motivate an employee by an employer is influenced by inter-personal relations as well as by organisational efforts. The organisational efforts are shaped by vision, mission, goals and objectives, while the inter-personal relations are shaped by good and healthy communication, positive encouragement and support, on the job coaching, equal treatment, appropriate behaviour, helping attitude, etc. The most influencing factor is leadership which makes the difference in making employees perform better. Interestingly, in the Indian Banking System, a Branch Manager (BM) is an employer as well as an employee in the Bank; thus he simultaneously performs the twin role of an employer and an employee. The capability of a BM, is dependent on several factors which are included in the organisational drivers of motivation. The present Study demonstrates that the traits inculcated by the BM are influenced by the traits acquired at the organisational level i.e., realisation on reaching the goals and objectives. Further, the culture of the organisation and synergy matter in reaching the branch's objective which, in turn, influences organisational objectives. The present study aims at identifying variables and factors associated with the drivers of organisational motivation. The Study has demonstrated that ‘real life examples, committed guidance, counselling, leading by examples, recognition and appreciation ’influences employer's to put the best foot forward. The Study also demonstrates that drawing of subjective performance appraisal without taking into account their actual performance, inappropriate behaviour of SOs, unrealistic allocation of business targets to BMs, non-recognition and nonappreciation of their good work, bias in transfers and promotions, demotivate the BMs. The Study concludes that there is a need for motivating employees by BMs adopting organisational nuances.
