Abstract

‘Swami Vivekananda’ in his book ‘Karma Yoga’ said that the word ‘Karma’ has been derived from the Sanskrit root known as ‘Kri’ means ‘To-do’; all actions which performwithin the universe is'Karma’. The term ‘Karma-Yoga’ has been borrowed from the holistic book popularly known as ‘Srimad Bhagavad Gita’ which has focused on the philosophy to act without any apprehension for the out-coming of the action performed (Nishkam Karma-Yoga). On the basis of Indian Wisdom, the philosophy of ‘Karma’ generates certain values of work which are followed by the adherent known as ‘Karta’. In India, people do consider work as a duty and its accountability from their past life, hence performing and carrying out duties without any desire for gains, will allow the path for divine transcendental benefits which is popularly known as ‘Moksha’ (liberation). On the other side, Western Philosophy considers ‘work’ as to gain materialistic comfort, so they give complete effort to lead a charming life (Aishwarya Jeevanam). The present study is a prudent attemptto conceptualize the ‘Karma-Yoga'by classifying into five relevant aspects. These aspects of ‘Karma-Yoga’ are as pertinent in today's’ scenario as they were in past. Employees’ (Karma-Yogi) showcase five significant characteristics whichare as i) Emphasis on the resulting process, ii) Commitment towards other people, iii) Act with calmness, iv)Search for excellence in ‘Karma’ (action), v) Offering work to the Higher Divine. As achieving the aspects help the employees to achieve the higher spiritual existence with a positive influence towards various job attitudes. This paper has noted several facts from various secondary sources of research papers and articles focused on ‘Karma-Yoga’ which have explored much about the transcendental philosophy of work that frees us from the unscrupulousaction within the workplace. It has also detailed about the feasible relationship between the five aspects of ‘Karma-Yoga’ and various job attitudes (Job Involvement, Job Satisfaction, and Employee Quitting Intension)
