Prospects of using phosphate solubilizing Pseudomonas as biofungicide

Abstract

Out of 30 cultures of bacteria and fungi, 26 cultures solubilized 9 - 75% P on solid and 14 - 88 µg mL−1 in liquid medium. These were tested for antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Curvularia lunata Rhizoctonia solani Fusarium oxysporum and Pythium aphanedermatum. The cultures 16R, 26R, 36R, 13P and 14P did not inhibit any of the fungi tested, whereas 12R, 14R, 6P and 10P were inhibitory to all. On the basis of P-solubilization and antifungal activity 6N, 14R and 10P were finally selected for subsequent studies and were identified as Pseudomonas sp.
