An extracellular pectin lyase (PNL) produced by an indigenously isolated strain of Aspergillus niger was studied. The optimum pH and temperature of the partially purified enzyme was found to be 7.2 and 45°C respectively. The enzyme appeared to be an endoenzyme and was activated by Mn2+ , Mg2+ and Co2+ ions and had Km of 2.2 mg mL−1 of pectin.
