Response of green gram and pigeonpea to Bradyrhizobium-inoculation and soil moisture conservation practice
Abstract
Response to inoculation with Bradyrhizobium was enhanced significantly in green gram when soil moisture conservation (SMC) measures were adopted in rainfed Alfisols, while in pigeon pea the increased response was not significant. The improved response to inoculation with SMC resulted from higher soil moisture in the profile during dry spells, which resulted in better nodulation and effective nitrogen fixation.
