Production of lipase by Bacillus megaterium AKG-1 using wheat bran in solid substrate fermentation

Abstract

Bacillus megaterium AKG-1 produced lipase during solid substrate fermentation. Maximum lipase yield was 18.6 IU g−1 (wet wt) with wheat bran as solid substrate. Lipase yield was 42% more when wheat bran-soybean mixture was used. Supplementation of medium with Tween-80 (0.5%) led to 76% increase in lipase production. Addition of soybean oil (1-2%) to wheat bran had no effect on lipase yield.
