Abstract

Cultural properties of Streptomyces tanashiensis MTCC 6277 were studied oneight culture media. The morphological, physiological and antimicrobial characters of the isolate were recorded. The strain exhibited resistance to chloramphenicol, penicillin and streptomycin. The isolate had the ability to produce enzymes such as amylase, cellulase, chitinase, tyrosinase and nitrate reductase. The strain showed good antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus, B. subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Candida albicans and Penicillium spp.
