Abstract

An attempt was made to evaluate the influence of Aloe vera on Staphylococcus aureus, an organism causing various skin diseases. At 50% leaf gel concentration, complete inhibition of the growth of S. aureus was observed. Antibacterial factors were isolated from the acetone and methanol extracts, using TLC. Preliminary biochemical analysis indicated these factors to be phenolics. The acetone and methanol extracted factors proved cidal at 1 and 3 mg mL−1 concentrations, respectively.
