Genotypic characterization of avian Escherichia coli by enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus - polymerase chain reaction (ERIC - PCR)

Abstract

A molecular typing method based on the analysis of the enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) sequences was used to find out the genetic diversity among Escherichia coli serotypes. By plotting dendrograms, these serotypes were grouped into two major clusters with a maximum linkage distance of 26 units. Furthermore, the principle component analysis (PCA) also revealed similar clustering as in the dendrogram. ERIC-PCR based molecular typing and dendrogram based analysis indicated genetic diversity among E. coli serotypes.
