Foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV)-specific cellular immune response was evaluated in gilts, following vaccination with inactivated oil adjuvant quadrivalent foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccine up to 90 d post vaccination (dpv). Peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from all the gilts carried almost similar functional competence as determined by their consistent reactivity to Con A. The FMDV serotype-specific T-cell proliferative response of primed-PBL was highest on 14 dpv against all the three FMDV serotypes (Type O, A & Asia-1), after which it declined up to 90 dpv but still showed a significant T-cell response. FMDV response of PBL to type O was more as compared to type A and Asia-1 on 14 and 28 dpv, while on 56 and 90 dpv, the response to all the three FMDV serotypes was almost similar.
