Pseudomonas sp. were isolated from rhizosphere of fir and spruce growing in the forest stands at Gulmarg, Yousmarg and Tangmarg in Kashmir valley and examined for plant growth promoting activities. The isolates found to have plant growth promoting potentials were selected and inoculated to young fir and spruce seedlings to assess their role in plant growth and establishment of the seedlings. A few isolates increased the height, number of leaves, girth and weight of plants significantly. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium contents were also enhanced. Isolate PS5 was found best in all the physico-chemical characteristics.
