Abstract

Six isolates of Aspergillus niger obtained from different sources were screened for glucoamylase production and dry mycelial weight. Most of the isolates showed highest glucoamylase activity after 72 and 84 h but A. niger NCIM 1054 showed maximum glucoamylase acitivity of 42 U ml−1 after 60 h. Least glucoamylase activity of 29 U ml−1 was exhibited by A. niger MTCC 2587. Maximum dry mycelial weight was observed after 144 h irrespective of the isolates. Highest dry mycelial weight was observed in case of A. niger NCIM 1248 closely followed by A. niger NCIM 1054 with A. niger M occupying the last position.
