Worklife balance and job satisfaction on turnover intentions of married women IT employees and school teachers in Chennai

Abstract

Labour turnover intentions (or) attrition refers to the employees’ ideas to quit the job. Employees generally quit the job if there is no worklife balance. So, in order to find out the worklife balance on attrition this study has been undertaken. Work-Family conflict, family-work conflict, work environment, feelings about work, worklife balance, job satisfaction and labour turnover intentions are the variables considered for the study. The samples were selected from 173married women respondents in Chennai including 104 school teachers and 69 IT employees. mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression are the statistical tools used for data analysis. The hypotheses “there is a significant relationship between worklife balance and labour turnover intentions” and “job satisfaction has a significant relationship with attrition” were framed, tested and it is concluded that there is a significant relationship between the worklife balance and the turnover intentions of the employees working in organization with 33%. Job satisfaction has a significant relationship with attrition. Apart from worklife balance, job satisfaction and feelings about work reduces the turnover intentions of the employees. Job satisfaction reduces the turnover intentions of the employees by 24.4% and there is no significant correlation between the worklife balance and job satisfaction. Feelings about work is the highly correlated variable with labour turnover intentions with 62.2%. Suggestions such as making common 5 weekly working days into 4 days at office and 1 day as flexi for IT employees and by avoiding unnecessary additional workloads to school teachers are forwarded.
