Abstract

One primary objective of this paper is to find out the status of women entrepreneurs in India. In Hindu scriptures, woman has been described as the embodiment of shakti. But in real life she is treated as Abla.. This paper includes rationale behind the women entrepreneurship. Another main objective of this paper was to analyse policies of Indian government for women and also to analyse that are those policies enough for the growth of women entrepreneurship.

Main reasons for women to become an entrepreneur, the institutions that are helping the women to put their thoughts into action are also included in this study.

Another objective of this paper was to deeply analyse the profile of women entrepreneurs and problems faced by them while pursuing their business. On the basis of this analysis some recommendations are given to promote spirit of women entrepreneurship and helping the women to become a successful entrepreneur.

Independence brought promise of equality of opportunity in all sphere to the Indian women and laws guaranteeing for their equal rights of participation in political process and equal opportunities and rights in education and employment were enacted. But unfortunately, the government sponsored development activities have benefited only a small section of women. The large majority of them are still unaffected by change and development activities have benefited only a small section of women i.e. the urban middle class women. The large majority of them are still unaffected by change and development. The reasons are well sighted in the discussion part of this article. It is hoped that the suggestions forwarded in the article will help the entrepreneurs in particular and policy-planners in general to look into this problem and develop better schemes, developmental programmes and opportunities to the women folk to enter into more entrepreneurial ventures. This article here tries to recollect some of the successful women entrepreneurs like Ekta Kapoor, Creative Director, Balaji Telefilms, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, CEO, Biocon, Shahnaz Husain and Vimalben M Pawale, Ex President, Sri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad (SMGULP), Schauna Chauhan CEO, Parle Agro, Alish Chauhan, Director, Parle Agro and Founder V3 Fitness Commune, Nadia Chauhan, Director, Parle Agro.
