This paper presents the results obtained and the deductions made from a series of wear tests involving sub zero water-cooled, water-cooled and graphite end chills specimens.
The effect of wear resistance of varying the chill rate was examined. Also wear tests were carried out using a modified pin-on-disk method. The tribological behavior and the effects of these on the mechanical properties like strength and hardness were recorded and analyzed and compared with specimens of the same chemical composition which were sand cast without chill.
