The mechanical properties of a strain hardenable 5083 Al alloy subjected to two directional cold and cryorolling are reported in this present work. In the two directional cold and cryorolling the strain is disturbed along the longitudinal and transverse direction, so that the dislocations are distributed uniformly along the longitudinal and transverse direction. The rolling reduction was applied upto 90% for both cold and cryorolled 5083 Al alloy. Mechanical properties such as strength and hardness were evaluated for cold and cyrorolled samples rolled upto 90% reduction. Among cold and cryorolled 5083 Al alloy, cryorolled 5083 Al alloy showed maximum improvement in hardness (153 HV) and tensile strength (460 MPa) with 5% tensile elongation. The cryorolling of 5083 Al has improved its strength significantly due to the suppression of dynamic recovery that leads to higher dislocation density and strain hardening. The mechanical properties of cryorolled and cold rolled 5083 Al alloy were compared.
