Abstract

Here, we report detailed conductivity and impedance studies carried out on a nano-sized magnesium ferrite (MgFe2O4).The nano-sized material was synthesized by microwave route using urea as a fuel. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the samples were investigated. The studies confirm the formation of nano-sized magnesium ferrite. Magnesium ferrite (MgFe2O4) finds many applications in absorption and magnetic technologies. In this paper, the electrical properties of the material have been investigated by impedance spectroscopy at four different frequencies 1 KHz, 10 KHz, 100 KHz and 1 MHz and at the temperature ranges from 0°C to 700°C. Conductivity and resistivity of the material as a function of temperature were studied. It is found that, the resistivity is very high and metallic in nature up to 150°C. However, the conductivity is found to be very low. All possible mechanisms contributing to the results have been presented in this paper.
