The Role and Directives of Government in Corporate Social Responsibility.

Abstract

Earlier the aim of an Organisation was just to run the business by earning the PROFIT which are divisible in nature among the shareholders. With the passage of time the aim of an organisation has changed. Considering the societal welfare now the primary motto of the organisation is corporate social responsibility. The chief cause behind this is the society welfare. The organisation exists within a society, for the society and by the society; Organisation's negligence towards the society will make the way to the failure of an organisation. To survive in the market the organisation must take care of the social responsibility. The Government are aware now to encourage the companies to take up the strategies to promote the corporate social responsibility which mutually benefits the society and business.

As the time passed, the definition of corporate social responsibility changed. Various leaders, researchers, academicians had defined the corporate social responsibility. This paper presents the concept of corporate social responsibility, definitions of corporate social responsibility by different researchers, leaders. The role and responsibility of the Government to promote the corporate social responsibility. The four different roles which the Government perform to drive the corporate social responsibility are authorising (mandating), assisting (facilitating), associating (partnering) and approving (endorsing). These roles have been defined in the paper.
