Abstract

Emotional competence is social and personal skill that lead to superior performance. Emotional competence involves the ability to recognize & understand one's own emotions & the emotions of others as well as the ability to regulate, express & use one's emotions in socially appropriate & adaptive ways (Saarni et al. 2006)20. This includes knowing how to control impulses, use good judgment & adapt emotions in response to other's emotions & reactions. Emotional competence and success are closely related to each other. Emotional competence is a prerequisite for success; this important ability is influenced by many factors like environment, biological and psychological determinants, economic conditions of the family and many more. It will help in developing responsibility and capacity for adjustment in all types of emotional situations. Emotionally competent person deals with the problems of day-today life as a challenge and solves them in a positive manner.
