Assessment on Prospects and Challenges of Agricultural Investment in Benishangul Gumuz Regional State (With specific Reference to Farmland Investment)

Abstract

This study conducted to assess prospects and challenges of farmland investment in Beneshangul-gumuz regional state. Unlike other studies conducted in the region, this study find out prospects and investigate the major challenges of farmland investment. The study used both primary and secondary data sources for gathering relevant information. It this study both qualitative and quantitative research approaches were also used. Qualitative research methods were applied to explain the challenges and prospects. And it helps to obtain systematic sequence of information to get into the depth of research problems. On the other hand, quantitative research methods were used to provide numerical measurement and analysis of the magnitude and extent of the problem. The target populations of the study were investors, investment officials and land administration officers. Out of the total woredas (20) in the region, 9 (45%) were taken as a sample from each zone of the region. Yemane sample size determination technique was used to determine the sample size. After stratifying investment woredas in to relatively better investment and less investment woreda, sample respondents were selected using systematic random sampling techniques. Government officials and participants of focus group discussions were selected using purposive sampling method. Then for gathering relevant data, person administered questionnaire, in-depth interview and field observation were used. Descriptive data analysis methods were employed to analyze the collected data. Finally, recommendations were forwarded to all concerned bodies.
