Emotional intelligence of adolescents of nuclear and joint families-A comparative study

The present study aims at finding out the emotional intelligence among adolescents of nuclear and joint families. The study was conducted on a sample of 600 adolescents, out of these, 300 were from nuclear families and 300 were from joint families. For the collection of necessary data, the investigator used the Emotional Intelligence Scale by Hyde et al., (2001). The data were analyzed by using Mean, S.D., and ‘t’ test. The results indicated that the adolescents of nuclear and joint families differ significantly on factors such as Self-awareness, Empathy, Self-motivation, Emotional stability, Managing relations, Integrity, Self-development, Value orientation and Altruistic behavior as well as on composite scores of emotional intelligence.
