Abstract

Community plays varieties of role in the management of education and teaching learning process. Community participation has been recognized as an integral part of quality education where we strive to educate our children with the limited resources available. A major responsibility lies with the community members who would ensure that all the children complete their education, at least up to the elementary level. Providing a handholding support to the government schools and teachers, they could ensure good governance, rights, ownership and accountability to the process of education. The present article sets out to study the concept and forms of community participation and quality education, roles and responsibilities of the community members in ensuring quality in education, challenges and barriers to education and the response of the community members for the same. The study also deals with the impact that community participation has on the overall education process.
