Rise of public opinion through press media for linguistic movement in Orissa

The rise of intellectual class, growth of education and the spirit of nationalism spread the public opinion among the Oriya population to get rid of the Bengali and British supremacy. The situation, causes and the consequences of the above events led agitation, establishment of printing presses, several associations for the formation of a linguistic organized Orissa province. The controversies against the implementation of the Bengali and English and the counter controversies are also very essential to evaluate the steady progress of the linguistic movement for the unification of the fragmented Orissa province. The Ganjam and Sambalpur district except the main part of Odisha was under Madras Presidency and Central Provinces. The Telugu and Hindi language dominated the administrative offices in respective areas. The main part of Orissa like Cuttack, Puri and Balasore was under the Bengal presidency and the center of economic and cultural exploitation. The root and the way of progress to achieve the goal to merge every portions is a major part of the Oriya linguistic movement, the nationalist movement of Odisha as well as India.
