Abstract

As World Health Organisation states Urban Health matters, in critical ways, for more and more people. For the first time in history, more people are now living in urban settings than in rural areas. By the year 2030, an estimated six out of every ten people will be living in towns or cities, with the most explosive growth expected in Asia and Africa. India is in the race of development within itself and contending with the global perspective, where we are assuring some positive signs and where country's Economy is gaining the higher momentum. And in the same way it is also a fact that from the time of independence and after, India is facing some very basic problems at grassroots level, which is a threat for the development of the country. Till today India's is struggling to maintain sustainable and balanced rate of Health ratio, which are constraints for country's overall development.

On the one hand, it's been a talk of Smart Cities and also at the other hand, there is rapid growth of Slums in Urban area in last 20 years. It is estimated that every year 160 million people are moving towards cities, where more than 60% of them are not having the decent roof and basic amenities like access to safe drinking water, sanitation, Pucca house and security of tenure.

The Proposed study is an effort to access the existing conditions among which the slum-dwellers live. It also intends to find out the gaps between the assured government assistance and its reach among the slum-dwellers. Whether the media has addressed these issues related to hygiene, health and other related issues and the extent of media consumption among the slum-dwellers.

The entire study will be done with some depth interviews with slum-dwellers and also FGDs with public health program administrators and media persons.
