The study on the effect of welfare policies implementation of healthcare and housing on workers’ performance in selected Federal Universities in South-South Nigeria was carried out in order to determine how welfare policies influence the performance of workers across South-South Nigerian Federal Universities. Taro Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size while simple percentage was used to analyse the assumptions. The expectancy theory was used to explain the variables as they apply to the study. A total of 400 copies) of structured questionnaires were also distributed among the workers and retrieved with a 90.7% respondent rate were analysed quantitatively. The findings from the study showed that, whereas there is good welfare policy statements in the study area, the full implementation of these policies have not been fully achieved. A total of 90% of the respondents insisted that full implementation of welfare policies would have positive impact on workers’ performance to a very large extent. Data gathered from this study showed that full implementation of welfare policies on healthcare and housing, in the selected Federal Universities in the South-South Nigeria would result in a significant improvement in workers’ performance and productivity. Additionally, there was also inadequate housing in almost all the Universities in the study area, though monetization has been introduced into the system, it has not eased off the rush for accommodation by members of staff. However, gender discrimination was identified in the welfare policy statements on healthcare delivery against non-working husbands of female staff. Therefore, the study proposedan urgent review of the existing welfare policy statements and criteria, for easy accessibility of welfare packages in the study area to reflect world best practices such as, gender equity and transparency. The findings from this work, indicated that workers tend to invest more time, intellectual resources and perform better when motivated, thus, generating more funds for their institutions.
