Water Resource Management through Rain Water Harvesting

Abstract

India is endowed with a rich and vast diversity of natural resources, water being one of them. Its development and management plays a vital role in agriculture production. Integrated water management is vital for poverty reduction, environmental sustenance and sustainable economic development.

Water resource management is the activity of planning, developing, distributing and managing the optimum use of water resources. It is a sub-set of water cycle management.

The objective of this study is to save the rain water and increase the ground water level by making the soak-pit. The data of average rain fall of Jabalpur in 2012–2016 shows that the average rainfall is 1040.88mm, while 50% to 60% water of the total rainfall is waste from drainage. By making the soak-pit we can collect the rain water of the roof of buildings through rain water pipe. So this water resource planning will save the rain water and increases the ground water level.
