Avoidable losses in barley due to Heterodera avenae were estimated at 12 locations representing sandy and sandyloam soils with a range of 4.6 to 23.1 e/g soil as initial population. Maximum avoidable losses recorded were 91.8 and 87.2 per cent for fodder and grain respectively, at initial population of 22.4 e/g soil. It was concluded that fodder suffers more than grain; damage is more in sandy soil as compared to sandyloam; with the increase in initial population, damage also increases whereas nematode multiplication is reduced. The losses varied from Rs 1687 to Rs 5911.
