Abstract

Four economically important plant parasitic nematodes were found to be associated with wheat in the BAU and BINA farms, Mymensingh. The nematodes were Criconemoides spp., Helicotylenchus spp., Pratylenchus spp. and Tylenchus spp. A significant relationship of the nematode population density and the plant growth stage was observed. Because species of some of the nematodes especially Ptatylenchus has been reported to be associated with decline in wheat yield in other parts of the world, it is assumed that the plant parasitic nematodes may also be a contributing factor in decline wheat yield in this region.
