Abstract

Two new cyst nematode species are described. One of these belonged to the genus Afenestrata, a new record from India and the other did not fit in any of the known genera of the cyst nematodes. Hence, a new taxon, Brevicephalodera, has been erected to receive this new form. A. sacchari sp. n. was isolated from Saccharum munjo and B. bamboosi gen. n., sp. n. was isolated from bamboo. A. sacchari differs from A. africana, the other known species, by presence of underbridge, longer body length of larvae and males and longer stylet length of the second-stage larvae. The new genus, Brevicephalodera, is characterised by a short neck of the females, kidney shape, depressed vulval area and absence of underbridge.
