Forty six medicinal and aromatic plants were studied for the presence of phytoparasitic nematodes. The root knot nematode Meloidogyne hapla was the predominant nematode species, followed by Helicotylenchus incisus, Pratylenchus coffeae, Tylenchorhynchus maritini, Xiphinema americanum, Scutellonema conicephalum and Hemicriconemoides manggerae. The spiral nematode Helicotylenchus incisus was the most frequently occurring species. Solanum khazianum, Rawolfia serpentina, Gaultheria fragrantissima, Cinchona officinalis, Ammi majus and Eucalyptus citriodora, were the important species of medicinal and aromatic plants which lodged most of these nematode species.
