Abstract

The cyst forming nematodes are one of the major nematode pests of agricultural crops all over the world with about 115 identified species in six genera of Heterodera, Globodera, Punctodera, Cactodera, Dotiehodera and Afenstrata. Out of these, 4 genera (Heterodera, Globodera, Cactodera and Afenstrata) recorded from India comprise of 22, 2, 3 & 2 species, respectively. Among the Heterodera sp., the cereal cyst nematode, H. avenae is the most importnat cyst nematode in India. Mapping the presence as well as their distribution in India revealed that majority of them are clustered in the North western parts of the country.
