Abstract

Two new species of tylenchid nematodes, Tylenchorhynchus bambusi sp.n. and Helicotylenchus raipurensis sp. n. from Assam and Chhattishgarh states of India, are described and illustrated. The T. bambusi sp. n. isolated from the rhizosphere of bamboo, is characterized by having open ‘C’ shaped posture; conoid, rounded, continuous lip region bearing 2–3 distinct annules; labial frame work weakly sclerotised; L= 665–770 μm; a ratio= 27.3–38; b= 4.8–5.7; c= 13.3–18.7; c`= 2.7–4.5; V= 43.7–56.2%; stylet =17–19 μm; clavate tail with hemispherical and smooth terminus; phasmids located at 75% anterior to tail terminus and presence of males. The H. raipurensis sp. n. isolated from the rhizosphere of rice, is characterized by having L = 692–760 μm; a = 26–32; b= 5.6–7; b` = 4.6–5.4; c = 30–38; c` = 1.2–1.7; stylet = 26–28 μm; tail length = 18–25 μm; ABW = 13–17μm, and it has been differentiated from the closely related species H. crenacauda, Sher, 1966 and H. paracrenacauda Phukan and Sanwal, 1981.
