Abstract

Defense related enzymatic activity mediated by Pseudomonas (Pf 123) and Bacillus (Bs 214) isolates in black pepper cv. Panniyur 1 against root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita was studied under glass house conditions. Observations were recorded on the activities viz., peroxidase (PO), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) and total phenol content in the root samples. Among the treatments, highest activity of PO, PPO, PAL and total phenol content was observed in the consortium, Pf 123 + Bs 214 treated samples. No significant changes in the activities of defense enzymes were observed with the carbofuran treated samples and untreated control.
