Spiral nematode Helicotylenchus (Greek helix = a coil for body posture when relaxed; and Tylenchus) is widely distributed in association with almost all the field and horticultural crops, and about 246 species are known globally. This paper provides a check-list of globally known species of Helicotylenchus, alongwith compendium of valid species, recorded species of the genus from India and species variability within the genus.
