Abstract

Examination of syconia of Ficus carica, F. benghalensis, F. racemosa and F. religiosa, growing at Hisar (Haryana, India), revealed the presence of eight species of Schistonchus. Schistonchus religious n. sp. inhabiting figs of F. religiosa: Males- L = 312-480 μm, a = 22.6-32.6, b = 6.8-9.2, c = 17.9-25.6, excretory pore near lip region, spicules without cucullus, sperm rounded; Females- L = 431-625 μm, a = 19.2-23.3, b = 9.1-11.7, c = 21.6-29.7, V = 71.8-77.3. Infective Females- L = 284-330 μm, a = 28.4-33.0, b = 6.0-6.4, c = 15.1-20.17, V = 75.0-78.1. Infective females were also collected from the abdomen of Eupristina sp. indet. Species collected from sycones of F. benghalensis are-S. flagellobenghalensus n. sp.: Males- L = 299-425 μm, a = 21.0-26.2, b = 6.2-7.6, c = 15.9-18.88, excretory pore near median bulb, sperm flagellate, tail without mucro; Females- L = 367-519 μm, a = 24.2-41.6, b = 7.0-8.8, c = 13.6-15.2, V = 71.1-75.8; S. mucrobenghalensus n. sp.: Males- L = 339-434 μm, a = 26.4-34.7, b = 7.2-9.1, c = 21.9-26.7, excretory pore near lip region, sperm amoeboid, tail without mucro; Females- L = 416-574 μm, a = 30.2-41.6, b = 7.0-9.2, c = 13.3-20.1, V = 69.3-75.7, tail having long central mucro; S. antherobenghalensus n. sp.: Males- L = 339-432 μm, a = 22.1-29.4, b = 6.4-8.7, c = 17-23, excretory pore near lip region, amoeboid sperms, tail without mucro; Females- L = 400-545 μm, a = 18.6-22.6, b = 6.1-10.9, c = 12.8-20.4, V = 68.7-76.1; Infective Females- L = 383-419 μm, a = 22.2-27.9, b = 6.6-7.6, c = 14.0-15.4, V = 68.9-70.9. Infective females were also isolated from abdomen of Eupristina masoni. Schistonchus spp. collected from F. racemosa have been named as-S. cuculloracemosus n. sp.: Males- L = 441-609 μm, a = 24.5-29.3, b = 6.0-9.5, c = 16.0-20.5, excretory pore near lip region, sperm amoeboid, cucullus present, tail with well developed mucro; Females- L = 707-906 μm, a = 17.6-27.8, b = 10.9-15.15, c = 14.5-21.2, V = 70.1-77.6; Infective Females- L = 462-549 μm, a = 26.939.9, b = 6.3-7.8, c = 8.2-11.1, V = 66.8-72.3. Infective females were also isolated from abdomen Ceratosolen fusciceps. S. flagelloracemosus n. sp.: Males- L = 342-446 μm, a = 22.8-32.9, b = 8.1-11.2, c = 21.1-27.5, excretory pore near stylet base, sperm amoeboid, tail with small digitate process at tip; Females- L = 442-504 μm, a = 24.3-30.4, b = 8.0-10.1, c = 12.8-16.8, V = 74.7-78.2.
