The influence of potato cyst nematode (PCN) on plant growth and yield parameters, its pathogenic potential and reproduction fitness on popular potato cultivars of Nilgiris was studied in field. The final population of cysts increased in the susceptible cultivars viz. Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Girdhari and Kufri Himalini with reproductive factor of 1.16 to 1.21. However, in the resistant cultivar, Kufri Swarna the reproductive factor remained low (Rf-0.97). Higher tuber yield was also recorded in cultivar Kufri Swarna (22.73 t/ha) compared to the other susceptible cvs. Kufri Girdhari, Kufri Himalini and Kufri Jyoti. Hence, growing of resistant potato cultivar Kufri Swarna in infested areas could be an effective PCN management strategy in the Nilgiris.
