Abstract

A Meloidogyne incognita responsive root specific promoter was isolated from Arabidopsis root, was validated against rice root-knot nematode (M. graminicola) and reniform nematode (Rotylenchulus reniformis) at 7, 14, 21, and 28 day post inoculation (dpi) using GUS assay and qRT-PCR against both the nematodes. GUS expression was evident in Arabidopsis root against the infection of both nematode, M. graminicola and R. reniformis at each time interval. These results help us to conclude that this promoter can be utilized in engineering resistance against rice root-knot nematode (M. graminicola) and reniform nematode (R. reniformis) in commercial crops.
