Abstract

Clavicauda indicus n. sp., belonging to the family Nygolaimidae and Sicaguttur kailashi n. sp. of the family Dorylaimidae under the order Dorylaimida, collected from rhizospheric soil of banana (Musa paradisiaca L. cv. Kanchakala) from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India are being described and illustrated. C. indicus n. sp. is characterized by having small body (female 0.86–1.02 mm; male 0.91–0.98 mm); lip region conoid-rounded, marked off by a slight depression; lateral cardiac glands situated distantly, the middle one not so prominent; cardia reverse pitcher-shaped; vulva transverse with sclerotized inner lips; anterior gonad about one-third of the posterior one; tail highly clavate with two pairs of caudal pores. Sicaguttur kailashi n. sp. is characterized with small body, 0.85–0.91 mm long in length; lip region broad, apically flat, well set off and considerably narrow; posterior expansion of pharynx is less than half of its length; cardia triangular in shape; vulva transverse, vulval papillae prominent, gonads are nearly equal in length; tail long, tapering gradually. C. indicus n. sp. differs from the only species of the genus Clavicauda symmetricus (Williams, 1958) Ahmad and Jairajpuri, 1982 with small body, shorter expanded part of oesophagus and prerectum, cardia prominent and cone shaped and highly clavate tail. The values of a, b and b ’are also different. Sicaguttur kailashi n. sp. differs from other four species of the genus characterized with small body, wide lip region, short female genitalia, short and straight tapering tail.
