The warmer climate in the tropics provides ideal conditions for multiplication of a wide range of plant-parasitic nematodes with broad host range. However, because of less awareness of farmers and high cost of nematicides, nematode problems in the tropics tend to remain unchecked. This review emphasizes the importance of cover crops for nematode management, offers detailed information on the history of cover crops in the tropics, discusses its application and farmers’ adoption, summarizes the benefits and limitations, and delivers an insight on how to select cover crops to minimize nematode damage.
