Optimizing Fluopyram Dosage and Application Techniques for Root-Knot Nematode Management in Pomegranate Production

Abstract

The effectiveness of Fluopyram (34.48 w/w) in combating the root-knot nematode in pomegranate was assessed using both drip application and soil drenching methods during two different seasons. The treatments included Fluopyram at various concentrations and application intervals. Fluopyram 34.48 SC did not adversely affect the population of free-living beneficial nematodes (FLBN) and predatory nematodes. In fact, their populations increased after the treatments. No phytotoxicity symptoms were observed on pomegranate plants treated with Fluopyram. Application of Fluopyram 34.48 SC at a rate of 625 ml/ha after defoliation and again at 45-day intervals, either with drip irrigation or soil drenching, effectively controlled root-knot nematodes in pomegranate. This treatment enhanced the plant growth and yield while being safe for beneficial nematodes. Among the methods tested, the soil drenching proved to be more effective than drip application.
