Integrated Nano Antennas -A possible Solution to Interconnect Problems

As the size of transistors decreases and the industry standard moves closer to solutions in the sub-100 nanometer range, many factors become critical. One of these factors is the size of packaging caused by the need to integrate the nanodevices with the outside world. Another critical issue stems from the relatively large parasitic effects a signal experiences when traveling on thin and narrow wires between devices. A possible solution to these roadblocks involves the use of integrated nano-antennas. By examining the properties of these antennas and designing their layout for the best performance, one may significantly improve the performance of future technologies thereby improving all aspects of life touched by technology.
