The aim of this study was to assess the problems faced by the midlife women and to assess the remedial measures adopted by the midlife women for menopausal problems.
In this cross sectional study which has been done in selected areas of c. kothangudi panchayath, Chidambaram from December to April 2013. sample size was 150. For each woman a questionnaire was completed. The data gained from each questionnaire were analyzed using systat software.
Most frequent menopausal problems experienced by the midlife women are 58% had hot flashes, 52% had night sweats, 73% had joint pain, 53% had head ache, 83% had feeling of tired, 67% had lack of energy, 51% had weight gain, 54% had feeling of tension, 54% had incontinence of urine and 47% had dribbling of urine. least frequent menopausal problems noticed among midlife women were gas pain (48%), low back pain (43%), decreased performance (36%), mood swings (33%), inner restlessness (35%), forgetfulness (42%), difficulty in falling asleep (37%), difficulty in sleeping through (51%), incontinence of urine (39%), vaginal spotting (46%), vaginal dryness (33%), palpitation (31%), dyspareunia (38%), being impatient with other people (45%) and 6% of people had adopted remedial measures such as hormones, herbs, oily substances.
This study showed that hot flushes, joint pain, night sweats, headache, weight gain, felling of tension, lack of energy, felling tired, incontinence of urine, dribbling of urine were the most common symptoms associated with menopause.
