Undergoing CABG surgery is physically and psychologically stressful for the patients that can have far-reaching effects on post operative outcome. Stress activation of nervous, endocrine and immune system results in tachycardia, hypertension, increased postoperative pain, increased risk for infection, and longer healing times which leads to prolonged hospitalization. So it is vital that the nurses should assess the level of stress, ask whether the patient requires further information about the forthcoming procedure and finally make the patient try to analyze the importance of CABG surgery in order to understand it better and get rid off from the disease condition. According to the current research literature, preoperative education should be given to the patients in the form of problem focused and emotional focused information to successfully reduce perceived stress among patients undergoing CABG surgery.
