A Study to Evaluate Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Intercostal Drainage Care among Staff Nurses in Dhiraj Hospital, Pipariya, Vadodara

Abstract

Evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme among staff nurses regarding ICD care

An evaluative research approach with pre-experimental design was used. The sampling technique used was non - probability convenient sampling. Data was collected from 60 staff nurses from Dhiraj hospital, pipariya, Vadodara. Data collection was done from 15-09-2014 to 22-09-2014. Permission taken from the medical superintendent of dhiraj general hospital was obtained prior to data collection process. The tool consist of section: 1 Demographic profile, section: 2 – knowledge regarding intercostals drainage care consisting 25 items. The reliability of the tool was established by using Karl's peorson split half method. Hence the tool was found to be reliable. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics Descriptive statistics used were frequency, mean, range and standard deviation. The data was also presented graphically.

The post test mean knowledge score is significantly greater than the pre-test mean knowledge score. The T calculated value of all five areas-7.742 which is less than the tabulated value of 3.46 at p<0.001 level of significance. So we accept that There will be no significant difference between the mean pretest and posttest knowledge scores of area wise score of staff nurses regarding intercostals drainage care at 0.05 level.

The study findings revealed that planned teaching programme was highly effective in improving knowledge of staff nurses regarding intercostals drainage care.
