Descriptive design was used to assess the level of knowledge among III year B. Sc Nursing students of RMCON. A total of 50 III year B. Sc Nursing students were selected using convenient sampling technique. Level of knowledge was assessed using questionnaire. Conceptual framework adopted for the study was Rosenstock's health belief model.
Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The result shows that 41(82%) students had inadequate knowledge, 7(14%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 2(4%) had adequate knowledge regarding emergency nursing management of organophosphorous poisoning. 33(66%) students had inadequate knowledge, 12(24%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 5(10%) students had adequate knowledge regarding emergency nursing management of acid poisoning. Regarding emergency nursing care of snake bite, 39(78%) students had inadequate knowledge, 9(18%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 2(4%) had adequate knowledge. The overall knowledge score of III year B. Sc Nursing students regarding emergency nursing care of poisoning shows that 44(88%) students had inadequate knowledge, 4(8%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 2(4%) students had adequate knowledge and also the result suggests that there is no association between knowledge and academic variables such as clinical exposure and number of patients taken care.
In this study majority of the students had inadequate knowledge regarding emergency nursing management of poisoning. Nursing curriculum should be properly implemented so that nursing students will get adequate theoretical and clinical exposure in taking care of poisoning patient.
