To assess the PEFR Score in pre and post Pranayama therapy among patients with COPD.
To assess the PEFR in pre and post Pranayama therapy among patients with COPD.
To determine the effectiveness of the Pranayama therapy on MMSAS and PEFR among patients with COPD.
To correlate the MMSAS & PEFR values with experimental group.
The quasi-experimental research design was used for this study to assess the effectiveness of Video Assisted Pranyama Therapy on COPD experimental group patients; in control group no intervention was applied. A total of 30 COPD patients were selected by convenient sampling technique. The video assisted Pranayama therapy effectiveness has been measured by using MMSAS score and PEFR measurement. Conceptual framework adopted for the study was General System Theory Model.
Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The result showed that the Pranayama practicing experimental group symptoms MMSAS score were reduced from pre-test mean value of 75.67 (SD 27.53) to 33.80 (SD 14.63) whereas in control group 53.20 (SD 27.30) to 102.27 (SD 39.32) respectively. The‘t’-test was used statistically and proved significantly at p<0.001. Similarly, there were significant improvements in the PEFR among experimental group practicing Paranayama therapy. In contrast, the control group pre-test mean value was declined sleepily from pre-test 141.33 (99.85 SD) to 84.67 (63.12 SD) and the‘t’-test value was 3.874 with significant at p<0.001.
In this study, COPD patients were experienced more difficult symptoms based on the MMSAS and recorded high level of symptoms scores. However, the Pranayama practice was effectively reduced the patients’ symptoms and significantly reduced the MMSAS score. Therefore, Pranayama therapy is highly recommended intervention for COPD patients’ to live healthy and lead peaceful life.
