Effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching Programme on Nipple Abnormalities and Its Management among Primigravida Mothers

Abstract

The nipple abnormalities being the main cause for the mother to feed the baby adequately. Among the antenatal mothers, the primigravida mothers have poor knowledge regarding management of nipple abnormalities. In order for baby to nurse effectively the baby must be able to grasp the nipple and stretch it forward and upward against the roof of the mouth.

To identify and assess the knowledge of mothers regarding nipple abnormalities and its management.

Quasi experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. Setting; the study was conducted in Sri Gokulam Hospital, Salem

Selected 30 Primigravida mothers by using purposive sampling technique.

A structured interview schedule and Video assisted teaching was used to collect the data. Data was analyzed by using both descriptive & inferential statistics.

The pre-test mean knowledge score was 16.2±3.734 and mean percentage was 46.29 whereas in post-test mean score were 31.3±4.494 and mean percentage was 89.43. It shows that video assisted teaching was very much effective. Calculated paired‘t’ test value is 14.9, it concludes that research hypothesis was accepted. There was no association between pre-test knowledge scores with their selected demographic variables.
