The health of women is of cardinal importance in the developing world not only because they are the care givers of the family, also because they nurture healthy individuals who are the center of the sustainable development. Health promoting behaviours are the main determinants of disease prevention and good health. This study was aimed to assess the health promoting life style behaviors, self-efficacy and health status of lactating mothers. The study was conducted in 210 lactating mothers residing in rural area. It was observed that more than 50% of the lactating mothers had good health promoting behaviors. Nearly half of the study subjects had average perceived health status and average self-efficacy. There was a positive correlation between health promoting life-style behaviors and self-efficacy as well as perceived health status. It was also observed that a positive correlation exists between perceived health status and self-efficacy.
